Frequently Asked Questions about EMDR Certification
  1. Will I be certified after taking this class?
    Answer: No.
    After completing the EMDR Basic Training (Weekend 1 and Weekend 2, and 10 hours of group consultation) you will be trained in EMDR therapy and can say that you do EMDR therapy. You will receive a certificate of completion once all the parts of have completed.

  2. What are the requirements to become a Certified EMDR Therapist?

    Answer:
    1. Must have license/certification/registration to practice independently as a    mental health professional.
    2. Join EMDRIA – the EMDR International Association
    3. Meet the requirements set by EMDRIA including:
      1. Completion of the Basic EMDR Training
      2. Receive 20 hours of consultation by an Approved Consultant in EMDR
        1. at least 10 hours through individual face-to- face
        2. the remaining 10 hours may be obtained through small groups
      3. At least 50 EMDR trauma sessions with no less than 25 clients
      4. Complete 12 hours of CEU’s in EMDR post the Basic Training

  3. What if an Approved Consultant is not easily available for face-to-face consultation in my area?
    Answer: 
    For those who are not easily accessible for face-to-face consultation, consultation may be obtained via phone. Barb and any of her facilitators are available for consultation.

  4. Is Certification required to practice EMDR?
    Answer: No
    Certification is not required at this time. Once you have completed the full Basic Training, you can practice EMDR under your license. Certification in EMDR is an option that many therapists have wanted because of Managed care concerns, and hospital privileges.
